Tobago is the smaller of the two islands that make up the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago the most southerly isles in the Caribbean, and is situated approximately 77 miles off Venezuela. Tobago has a tropical climate with annual wet and dry seasons which nurture the extensive range of flora and fauna that is visible throughout the island. It is home to the oldest protected nature reserve in the Western Hemisphere and has won several eco-awards in recent times, and also home to various species of bird, butterfly, snake, bat, lizard frog and varying types of mammal. It is a nature lover’s paradise.
The waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea surround the island where one can find the natural wonders of the Nylon Pool and Buccoo Reef – third largest coral reef in the western hemisphere, and here one can view the underwater world with its wide variety of coral and sponges, tropical fishes, the manta rays, sea turtles to mention a few through the glass-bottomed boats. The protected leatherback turtles also seek the shores of Tobago to lay their eggs during the nesting season and this yearly ritual is a spectacular sight for both visitors and locals alike!
The lifestyle on the Island is quite laid back and tranquil with warm sunshine, white sandy beaches with clear blue waters and friendly people. The island’s heritage is reflective of the English, French, Dutch, European and African influence, although its heritage remains predominantly African.
